Assistant Professor in Economic Sociology


Salary is no less than £54,984 per annum (pay award pending) and the salary scale can be found on the LSE website 


The post will commence in September 2020.


The Department of Sociology at LSE seeks to hire an outstanding Assistant Professor to add to our internationally renowned, innovative and publicly engaged faculty. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the department’s teaching on its MSc in Economy, Risk and Society as well as on other relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and to develop a high-quality research record in the area of economic sociology, broadly defined.


The successful candidate will need to have a completed, or nearly completed, a PhD in sociology or a relevant social science field by the post start date; a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications; proven ability as evidenced by existing publications, or potential to publish in top journals or with a leading academic press in sociology; and a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications. Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative social science research methods and the ability to teach on the Department’s MSc course in Economy, Risk and Society as well as on other relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses is also required.
